SOLD: Really Different…a Round Twelve Pen Box

Here’s a box I’ve not seen before, and not too likely to see again.  It’s a round double decker box from Foundry Cigars.  The three parts of the box nest together with the outside wood strips matching from bottom to top.  The lid features a “steampunk” style image.

PLEASE NOTE: This box can only hold pens up to 5 3/16 inches long.  Please measure the pens that you would consider placing in this box to be certain that they will fit.

I’ve repurposed it to hold twelve pens, six in each of its two levels, each pen up to 5 3/16 inches long.  That is not long enough for longer pens, but it will handle many other pens.  For example, in the pictures are a variety of Esterbrook J, SJ, and LJ pens and several different models of Sheaffer Balance, Military Balance, and Triumph Sentinel pens.

I have lined the former cigar compartments with red felt and fitted red velvety flocked pen trays to keep each pen securely in its place.  I’ve even lined the inside of the lid with matching red felt so that a pen can’t touch wood in any direction.

The box measures 7 3/4 inches in diameter and 2 3/4 inches tall.

If you have the right pens, then this will make a very interesting desktop pen box for you.

SOLD: Map Themed Pen Box

This pen box has a vintage map theme, starting with the small decoration on the lid, which is a clock with a map of the world on its face and continuing with the artwork inside the lid of an antique map and compass.  The exterior surface is covered with very interesting Thai Banana Paper.

The pens are cradled in “leather” ( actually patterned suede cloth) compartments and the interior of the box is lined with the same material.

As you can see, the box accomodates five pens up to the size of a MontBlanc 149.  Its exterior measures just 6 1/2″ by 6 1/2″ by 1 1/4″.

As usual, I have covered the bottom of the box with 2mm thick foam to provide a non-marring surface.

SOLD: A Small Steampunk Pen Box – larger than it looks

It began life as a Padron cigar box.  After I applied a layer of taupe colored Thai Banana paper and about eight layers of acrylic medium, plus some serious sanding with 400 grit paper and 0000 steel wool, it fairly glows.  The artwork on the lid and inside the lid give a gentle Steampunk feel.

This box measures only 5 3/4″ by 4 1/2″ by 1 3/4″, but it will hold six pens up to 5 1/4″ long in individual red velvety flocked compartments.  The first picture shows a collection of Conklin crescent filler ringtops, but the second shows its true capacity, including an Esterbrook J, a Parker 21, a Sheaffer Balance, and three standard sized Eversharp Skylines (not demi).

Another Box Just for Me – I ran out of storage space! I HAD MORE OF THESE, BUT THEY ARE ALL GONE NOW

This box began life as an El Primer Mundo cigar box.  I’ve marbled it with black, teal, gold, and copper (sometimes twice) and fitted the interior for pen storage.

The inside of the lid bears an original artwork by me featuring vintage handwriting,  postcards, and other interesting handwritten items.

If you want a little more “steampunk” motif, I have some alternate artwork that I can provde.

The pens are contained in individual compartments lined in a deep rusty red shade of suede cloth, and the pens pictured are my family pens, plus the first vintage pens I collected.  In the center are a Parker 51 Special – my father’s – and a Sheaffer TM Tuckaway – my mother’s – with matching pencil.  Flanking those on the right is a Laughlin eyedropper filling pen that belonged to one of my paternal grandparents, and on the left is my mother’s father’s Hudson pen.  Further to the right are a Parker 51 and a Ford’s pen and pencil set, and to the left of the Hudson are a Sheaffer slim Targa that I’ve owned for many years and a Sheaffer “fat” Valiant Touchdown.

The bottom of the box is covered with a 2mm thick foam pad to provide a non-skid surface that also protects a desk or tabletop against scratching.

The box measures about 10″ by 7″ by just 1″ thick and makes a nice statement in my office.

Nine Pen Storage – Marbled in Black, Bronze, and Teal – SOLD

This box started as a Davidoff cigar box and has been refinished in a marbled black/bronze/teal combination, including the inside and the edges of the pen compartments.  I’ve lined the pen compartments with a red-brown/bronze suede cloth that picks up the bronze in the marbling of the box.

The box will hold nine full-sized pens and looks quite nice on a desk or table top.  As always, I’ve covered the bottom with 2mm foam to protect your desk.

This little box is really “steampunk light” because there is no artwork.  Instead, this one is marbled inside and out with black, teal, and silver, and the pen compartments are fitted with blue/black suede cloth “leather” to carry out the steampunk theme.

The box is small, measuring 7 1/2″ by 5 1/2″ by 1 1/4″ deep, but holds five pens as large as a Montblanc 149 easily – see the photos.

As usual, I have added a 2mm foam pad on the bottom of the box so it won’t scratch your desk or table top.

Another Steampunk Styled Pen Box – holds seven pens – SOLD

Here’s another of my Steampunk styled pen boxes.  This one holds a single layer of seven pens, with each pen in its individual cradle compartment lined with soft suede cloth for complete protection.

The exterior of the box is painted to resemble patinaed metal and an original piece of my artwork is on the inside of the lid.  The cradles carry out the patinaed metal theme, but the suede cloth lining cushions the pens.

The box has a nice “brass” latch and a 2mm foam pad on the underside to protect your desk or table top.

SOLD: Double Decker Pen Case, Steampunk Style

Here’s the latest in my Steampunk style pen cases.  This is a double-decker, holding seven pens on each level, for a total of 14 pens.

Both the exterior and interior of the case are painted to resemble patinaed metal, and original artwork (by me) featuring a fountain pen theme decorates the interior of the lid.  The lid is secured by a brass latch, and a 2mm foam pad on the bottom of the box provides a non-marring finish to protect your desk or table top.

The individual pen compartments continue the steampunk style, with the dividers continuing the patinaed metal look, while the compartments are lined with soft suede cloth finished in a leather look to protect your pens.

A New Steampunk Box – storage for seven or eight pens – SOLD

This one is sold already, but if you like it I can do something similar for you.

Here’s my latest effort at a Steampunk styled box.  This one is sort of “steampunk light” because the real steampunk elements are inside the box – artwork inside the lid and the “leather” lining that is really suede cloth providing soft protection for your pens.

This box measures 6 1/2″ wide by 8 ” front to back by 1″ deep and holds seven pens across and can hold one or two pens in the back compartment or other items of your choice.  I must point out that the inside height is just 5/8″ (17mm) which means that my Montblanc 149 can’t fit without turning its clip to one side.  But, my two oversize Balances do fit just fine as you can see in the pictures.

The box is finished in black with a green/gold patina and has a 2mm foam pad on the bottom for a non-skid/non-marring surface.

The steampunk artwork inside the lid is original work by me.

A Steampunk Styled Box

I’ve done many black boxes before, but recently thought that a “steampunk” styled black box would be interesting.  Here’s my first try, an Ashton box converted with steampunk airships pictured on and inside the lid and “brass” and “leather” forming the pen holders.

The box will hold seven pens and the “leather” is actually patterned suede cloth, so the individual pen compartments are quite soft and will protect your pens from damage.
