For the Millenium, Montecristo commissioned artist Michael Delacroix to create a series of scenes of Havana and Paris. These drawings appeared on specially-made cigar boxes of dramatic proportions for a limited time. In the past few years, I have gathered four of the boxes, but because of their unusual size, I was puzzled as to the best way to fit them to hold fountain pens.
Recently, I accepted an order for one of the boxes and that forced me to figure out a good inside configuration. The result is pictured below, with a total capacity of 21 pens, 13 sitting vertically across the front and 8 horizontally in the back of the box.
The 13 front slots accommodate pens of up to 5 1/2 inches in length and the 8 back slots hold pens of up to 6 inches. And, if you require longer pen slots, I can arrange the front 13 to be about 6 1/2 inches and reduce the back slots from 8 to 6 for a total of 19 pens.
The pen compartments can be either black or red, the burgundy pictured is not available.
The Montecristo box measures 13 1/2 inches by 11 1/2 inches by 2 1/4 inches. These boxes are currently selling on ebay for $20 to $40 empty.
