SOLD: Pens and Formula One – 12 Pen Monaco Grand Prix Box

Davidoff Monaco box open full

This 12 pen box is a composite of several parts assembled with the theme of the Formula One Grand Prix of Monaco, recalling the F-I heyday of the late 1950s.

The unusual box, from Davidoff of Geneva, is covered in a medium brown linen and has magnetic closure along the front flap.

Inside, the Monaco Grand Prix theme is carried out by artwork in the lid, the wood of the pen tray, and the green lining.

The artwork shows spectators enjoying drinks at the Beau Rivage as the leaders top the hill from Sainte Devote.  Zooming by are a bright red Ferrari, driven by Tony Brooks or Phil Hill, closely pursued by a Cooper-Climax, driven by Stirling Moss or Jack Brabham, the eventual winner.

The brown wood and green lining  of the pen tray evoke images of a gaming table at the famous Casino.  This tray was not originally in the Davidoff box, but it is such a nice fit, both in size and theme, that it just had to go here.  The green lining of the pen tray is made of microsuede and is arranged so that pens touch only the lining.  I wish I had a Ferrari pen to go in this tray!

The box measures 13 1/4″ wide by 8 1/4″ front to back by 1 3/8″ deep, and the pen tray can accommodate 12 pens up to 6 5/8″ long in its 13/16″ wide pen slots.

The pen tray can be lifted out of the box as shown in the gallery below.
