Liga Privada just keeps coming up with unusual names…Feral Flying Pig, Velvet Rat, and now Ratzilla! They do keep the same interesting design them for their boxes, and Ratzilla is no exception. Their prancing lion logo in brown graces the lid and an interesting band encircles the entire box.
Since the wood was originally unfinished, I’ve sanded it smooth, then applied hand-rubbed polyurethane varnish for a nice satin finish. Underneath I added my usual 2mm foam pad to prevent slips and scrapes.
Inside the box, I retained the interesting label that repeats the lion logo – in gold this time – and lined the eight pen slots and the bottom of the pen compartment with felt in a color called “Copper Canyon” that complements the appearance of the box nicely.
The box measures 8 inches by 8 1/4 inches by 1 1/4 inches outside. Inside, the eight pen slots hold very large pens, see my Montblanc 149 and Jinhao 159 in the pictures, with each pen being up to 6 3/4 inches long.
I also found two matching Liga Privada No. 9 boxes that are perfect accompaniment for Ratzilla to hold your ink bottles. These boxes measure 5 1/2 inches by 5 1/2 inches by 3 3/4 inches deep inside and will hold many bottles of ink. For example, each one will hold 9 Noodler’s bottles with room to spare.
Ratzilla and the two No. 9 boxes are offered as a set. The set is priced at just $65 plus shipping. If you are interested, please email me at BamaPen@jehubbard.com and be sure to include your ZIP Code or location for a mailing cost quote.
