SOLD: Special Last-minute Christmas Offer Price Reduction: Pen Box – Two Trays, 20 Pens

PRICE REDUCED ON THIS BEAUTIFUL BOX! THIS BOX IS FINISHED AND CAN BE MAILED IMMEDIATELY.

Here is one of the nicer boxes I have ever made, and I don’t say that very often! This began life as an Avo Uvezian 2019 Limited Edition. It is very well made and beautifully finished inside and out in a lovely greyish tan.

Inside there are two lift-out trays, finished the same way, with handsome cloth belting lift handles. I have repurposed it for pens by lining each of the twenty individual compartments with soft “Copper Canyon” felt. Each compartment can hold pens up to 6 inches long.

The bottom of the two trays and the bottom of the box is covered in soft felt.

The coppery colored hinges are strong and have a built-in stop to hold the lid open at an angle. It is even possible to place one of the trays in the lid so that all twenty pens can be displayed at one time.

The box measures 11 1/2 inches by 7 1/2 inches by 3 inches, and it is made of wood that is 3/8 inch thick. This box is solid, and heavy!

This box is priced at $120 plus actual mailing cost. PRICE REDUCED TO $95 plus actual mailing cost.  If you are interested, please email me at BamaPen@jehubbard.com and include your location or ZIP Code and I will give you a mailing cost.

I take payment by PayPal or, if you wish, I can provide an email invoice payable with a credit card.

I mail by USPS Priority Mail.

SOLD: Ten Pen Display Box with Bifold Lid

This ten pen box serves both as storage and display, all in one. The unusual bifold lid retracts to show off the pens, but closes securely when stored.

I have had this Romeo y Julieta box for several years, but never seemed to be able to figure out how best to repurpose it for pen storage and display. I took another look at it recently, and almost immediately I was able to visualize the right arrangement for the contents. The result is this very attractive ten pen setup.

As you see in the attached pictures, the lid is hinged in the center so that, when opened, it retracts to an unobtrusive position. The pictures don’t show that this lid also has jewelry box style quadrant hinges, which are much more attractive and stronger than ordinary hinges.

I have divided the interior into a space for ten pens, plus a compartment along the back for small items: paper clips, rubber bands, ink cartridges, etc. The pen compartment holds the ten pens comfortably in their soft felt-lined cradles, and the entire interior is lined with the same cranberry/burgundy material. Each pen can be up to 6 1/2 inches long. You will see a MB 149 and my Laban Mento Terrazzo to give you an idea of just how large this will accommodate.

The bottom of the box is covered with a soft black felt material that minimizes sliding and protects your desk or table surface at the same time.

The box measures 10 inches wide, 9 1/2 inches front to back, and 2 inches tall.

The Ten Pen Display Box with Bifold Lid is priced at $65, plus actual mailing cost. If you are interested, please email me at BamaPen@jehubbard.com and include your location or ZIP Code for a firm mailing cost quote.

I accept payment by PayPal or I can provide an invoice payable with a credit card.

SOLD: Stunning Eight Pen Box

This Jaime Garcia Reserva Especial is finished on the exterior in a glossy off-white. The massive lid features a striking logo on the interior. The pen slots are separated by wooden dividers.

I have stained and varnished the interior surfaces (they were unfinished wood – typical of most cigar boxes) and then lined the individual compartments with royal blue microsuede to match the logo.

This beautiful box is priced at just $85 plus actual mailing cost. If you are interested, please email me at BamaPen@jehubbard.com and include your ZIP Code or location so that I can give you an accurate mailing cost.

SOLD: Desktop Box for Seven Pens

This Por Larranaga box has been repurposed to hold seven pens plus a compartment for the sort of “stuff” that accumulates on desks: paper clips, ink cartridges, etc.

The exterior of the box is finished in a beautiful blueish-green, with an attractive logo in the center. Inside, I have varnished the interior of the lid, but retained the logo, and fitted the base with dark red lining and pen cradles to bring out the dark red in the logo. I think that the result is rather attractive; how about you?

The bottom of the box is covered with a soft black felt. Note that the box is fitted with nice quadrant style hinges, both attractive and sturdy.

The box measures 9 inches by 7 inches by 2 inches, and each pen can be up to 6 1/4 inches long – plenty long for my MB 149!

The Desktop box for seven pen is priced at $55 plus actual mailing cost. If you are interested, please email me at BamaPen@jehubbard.com and include your ZIP Code or location so that I can give you a correct mailing cost.

I take payment by PayPal or if you prefer I can email an invoice payable with a credit card.

SOLD: Ten Pen Case with Wood Dividers

20200924_160811Here’s a pen case I’ve just finished, re-purposed from an Oliva Maduro Especial cigar box. The only thing I’ve left undone, is the artwork in the lid. You, the buyer will have an option on that…see below.

The box was fitted with wooden dividers, so I sanded, stained, and varnished all the dividers and other inside surfaces. I then fitted hunter green felt lining to each of the ten compartments, creating a nice sort of “clubby” look with the green and wood combination. As you can see, the compartments hold very large pens comfortably. That’s a black Montblanc 149 near the middle. Each compartment is  6 1/8 inches long.

The inside of the lid is not attractive, so I plan to fit artwork there. The pictures below show two suggested pieces – just leaned into place, not final – a vintage map and magnifying glass, and a painting of the Monaco Formula I Grand Prix from the 1950s, with Hawthorne and Moss running practically side by side. You can choose one of these, or we can discuss other ideas at no extra charge.

The box has two nice latches to secure the lid, and I’ve affixed a 2mm thick foam pad on the bottom to inhibit sliding. It measures 10 1/2 inches by 7 inches by 1 1/2 inches.

The Ten Pen Case with Wood Dividers is priced at $45 plus actual mailing cost.SOLD If you are interested, please email me at BamaPen@jehubbard.com and be sure to include your location or ZIP Code so that I can provide an accurate mailing cost.

I mail by USPS Priority Mail in the US and by USPS International First Class Package Service outside the US.

SOLD: Eversharp Skyline Pen and Pencil set – 14K gold-filled

Eversharp introduced the Skyline in 1941 and discontinued it in 1948. During those years, it was the best-selling fountain pen in the USA. Skylines were made in a myriad of versions, ranging from all plastic without even a cap band, all the way up to solid 14K gold cap and barrel. Regardless of the exterior, they all featured the great-writing Eversharp 14K nibs, which also were made in a wide variety of types, from fine to broad, and with varying degrees of flex.

Eversharp turned to Henry Dreyfuss, a well-known industrial designer – the streamlined locomotive of the Twentieth Century Limited train on the New York Central Railroad was one of his designs – to design this pen, and the result is a classic of the era.

This set is a near top-of-the line pair, being marked “1/10 14K Gold Filled” and the pen being fitted with a 14K Medium “banner” nib. The nib is in the third style of “banner” nibs, which would place it toward the later years of production. The set includes an original Eversharp case. The pen measures 5 1/4 inches long when capped. The pencil is the same length.

The condition of the set is as follows:

  • Both pen and pencil are engraved “Paul E Metz” around the cap lip/center band
  • The pen barrel has two opposing dents (see photos) that look as if it may have been caught in closing a drawer. To my knowledge it is very difficult to remove such dents from the Skyline pens, but I will say that it is not overly obvious or distracting from the overall good appearance.
  • When I purchased the set, the gripping section of the pen was broken in half. The section of the all-metal Skylines, such as this one, is different than that of the ones with plastic barrels, because this one includes the cap threads, whereas on the plastic barrel the threads are part of the barrel itself. With the help of a machinist friend with a good lathe, I was able to adapt a standard section to the threaded part of the original. We achieved a very good fit and there is little evidence of the repair (see photos).
  • There is no brassing on pen or pencil.
  • The nib is a 14K Medium, third generation “banner” nib. Very smooth writing.
  • The pencil embodies the excellent Eversharp propel/repel mechanism and works very well. The original eraser is concealed under the pushbutton.
  • I have fitted the pen with a new breather tube and ink sac, so it is ready for regular use.

I am asking $150 plus actual mailing cost for the set. If you are interested, please email me at BamaPen@jehubbard.com and be sure to include your location or ZIP Code so that I can calculate mailing cost.

SOLD: Jaime Garcia Eight Pen Box

Jaime Garcia Reserva Especial Limited Edition 2017 closed without label

The remaining box

I haven’t seen any of the Jaime Garcia Reserva Especial Limited Edition boxes for quite some time, and suddenly I have one of them! This is a large box with wooden dividers that once separated the cigars that were in them.

All of the interior surfaces and dividers are bare unfinished wood – except for the striking logo inside the lid – so I will sand and smooth the wood with 0000 steel wool, then stain it with Minwax “Gunstock” stain, followed by several coats of Minwax Satin Polyurethane varnish, hand-rubbed with 0000 steel wool between coats.

Blue felt that matches the color of the logo will line the pen compartments, and the bottom of the box will be covered with 2mm thick foam to inhibit sliding and protect your desk or table surface.

The exterior is the original factory finish, which is a cream colored, somewhat glossy paint, with a blue logo.

The box measures 10 inches by 9 inches by 2 1/2 inches and holds eight pens, each up to 6 1/2 inches long.  The pen slots are 7/8 inches wide.

I have just one of these boxes. It will be finished as shown in the pictures of an identical box that I sold some time ago.

The Jaime Garcia Reserva Especial Limited Edition Eight Pen Box is priced at $95 plus actual mailing cost. SOLD If you are interested, please email me at BamaPen@jehubbard.com and include your location or ZIP Code so that I can provide an accurate mailing cost quote.

I accept payment by PayPal or I can email an invoice which you can pay with a card if you prefer.

I mail by USPS Priority Mail in the US and by USPS International First Class Package outside the US.
