SOLD: Great Writers Series – Don Quixote Six Pen Box

Here’s a fine box for your desk to hold your current rotation of pens. It features a Don Quixote theme, both on the lid and inside, where a quote from Cervantes’ novel is overlaid with an abstract of Don Quixote and Sancho Panza.

Inside, I have fitted the box with six individual cradles to hold your pens. The cradles, plus walls and bottom of the box are lined with dusty rose felt, and your pens will touch nothing but the felt. Each pen can be up to 5 5/8″ long.

The box measures 6 3/4 inches wide, 6 1/4 inches front to back, and 2 1/4 inches tall. I have fitted a 2mm thick foam pad on the bottom of trhe box to inhibit sliding and avoid scratching any of your surfaces.

Custom John Steinbeck Box

From time to time I have added to my Great Writers series of boxes, which has included Cervantes, Mark Twain, Edgar Allan Poe, and C.S. Lewis (search “writers” to see examples).  Recently a Steinbeck fan asked me to create a box with that theme.

I’ve read Steinbeck, but did not have any solid ideas for how to represent him – yes, dark, but what else?  The design became a collaborative effort, with the customer providing favorite quotes, me combining them with Steinbeck images, and ideas being tossed back and forth via email.

Eventually we settled on a plain black box with black interior, plus a Steinbeck photo and quotes inside the lid and his signature on the lid.  Very simple, definitely dark, and quite effective.

As I write this, the box is in transit to its owner in Australia.  He’s already seen photos, so I’m posting them here for anyone else to see.  We will add photos of the box in use with his pens as soon as we can…Click on any image to open the gallery.

SOLD: Famous Writers Series – Mark Twain – Double Deck, 14 Pens

The latest in my Famous Writers Series, a double-decked, fourteen pen box featuring an image of Mark Twain inside the lid and a Mississippi River steamboat, where Sam Clemens got his pen name, on the lid.

The box is finished inside and out in black, dappled with copper and grey, representing an old box that has traveled the path of Mark Twain, up and down the Mississippi, across the Atlantic, and many places in America.

Inside there is one lift-out tray and a lower compartment, each holding seven pens up to six inches long.  The individual pen compartments are lined with a grey “leather” microsuede to further carry out the vintage theme.

Don Quixote Pen Box for Nine Pens – SOLD

Here’s a pen box for nine pens with a Don Quixote theme for the literary types.

The box is finished on the outside with red/gold/copper marbling and a Don Quixote image.  The inside lid continues the Don Quixote theme and the pen compartments are lined in a complimentary copper colored suede cloth for a soft landing for each pen.

The box measures 6 1/2″ x 8 1/2″ x 1″ on the outside and will hold pens up to 6″ long.  Be aware that because the box is rather shallow, it will not accomodate large diameter pens such as a Montblanc 149.

The bottom of the box is finished with a 2mm foam pad for a non-marring, non-slip surface.
